General
What is The Center for Musculoskeletal Care?
The Center for Musculoskeletal Care (CMC) at NYU Langone Medical Center will transform the delivery of musculoskeletal care as the first stand-alone facility in the United States where bone and joint patients can seamlessly access clinical care and participate in ground-breaking research at a single point-of-service. CMC will be a premier facility housing 110,000 square-feet of space located at 38th Street and First Avenue in midtown Manhattan. CMC's mission is to restore the freedom of motion, relieve pain, and enhance the quality of life for the spectrum of patients with orthopaedic and rheumatologic disorders by integrating seamless clinical care with state-of-the-art research. The integrated programs of orthopaedics and rheumatology will translate into a coordinated effort that draws upon many areas of expertise to provide optimal diagnostics and treatments to patients, throughout the Tri-State region, nationally, and internationally and will serve as a model to control the burgeoning problem of musculoskeletal diseases.
What services will be offered?
Services at CMC will include a total joint replacement center, a Spine Center, Sports Medicine Center, Center for Arthritis and Autoimmunity, Rusk outpatient therapy including physiatric services, center for diagnostic imaging, Comprehensive Pain Management Center, Sports Performance Center, Infusion Center, and enrollment in clinical trials and research activities.
How does the creation of CMC align with the NYULMC vision?
CMC is pioneering a model for patient care where all of the elements of our vision are put into practice. The optimal patient experience is at the heart of CMC, where we will bring together excellence in medical care, ground-breaking research, and innovative academic education to create a world-class patient centered facility. What makes CMC truly unique is that within steps of the physician practices, there will be a talented group of musculoskeletal researchers and physician scientists working onsite and collaboratively with the orthopaedic and rheumatology clinicians. Thus, a patient will have the ability to see their doctor; obtain necessary PT/OT, rehabilitation, pain management, and radiology services; and simultaneously have access to the latest in research in the musculoskeletal area as well as possibly be eligible to participate in any number of research studies.
When will CMC be open for business?
We are targeting the opening of CMC for March 2012. The construction has been completed, and we are anticipating a DOH survey to be conducted in January. Core staff will begin training starting in January.
What opportunities will be created with the opening of CMC?
There will be approximately 250 positions created with the opening of CMC. While not the full list, we anticipate hiring staff in the following roles: PTs, OTs, Radiology, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, Management including Financial and Administrative, IT, and a variety of administrative/clerical positions. To view the full list, please refer to the "Explore Our Opportunities" pull down menu at the top right hand portion of this page.
